Early voting for the November election began in Muskingum County Monday.

Over the next month, you have the chance to vote absentee, in-person or by mail. Voting by mail gives all people, including those with disabilities, the opportunity to vote without having to travel to the their specific polling location. The Muskingum County Board of Elections swore in its new Executive Director today.

Timothy Thompson was recently appointed to serve as the new director. He officially began his duties this week, and said he's most looking forward to leading the board through the upcoming election on November 3.

A multi-month search for a new executive director of the Muskingum County Board of Elections came to a close this week. 

The board selected Timothy Thompson as the new director. Currently, he is a math teacher at the Zanesville Christian School. The chairman of the board, Jack Boyd, said Thompson fits the description of what the board was searching for to replace Chris Hamill.

Polling closes for this year's primary election Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. We sought out people voting in the election. 

There were only a handful of things to vote on in Muskingum County, and Director of the board of elections, Chris Hamill, said that's one reason she expected a low turnout. As of late afternoon Tuesday, she did not think voting would hit 13 percent. But one voter said everyone should get out and vote.

Election Day is just two weeks away, and several local issues will be decided.

There are four issues on this year's ballot and a Republican primary race for Zanesville city law director. County wide, the Center for Seniors has a bond issue to provide funds for a new building.

In the Village of Philo, voters can decide on a levy for current expenses, in the Village of Dresden there is a natural gas aggregation issue and in Jackson Township there is an issue for cemetery operation...
