Construction is moving right along on the new Muskingum County Center for Seniors.

Area seniors will call downtown Zanesville home in just a few short months. Commissioner, Jim Porter, said they're one step closer to having the final design plans approved, and hope to have doors open by the end of August.

"We've got the asbestos removed, the elevator shaft is being repaired now, they dug a huge hole in preparation for it, they've been pouring concrete," Porter said....

Community leaders met today to discuss the progress of the new Muskingum County Center for Seniors in downtown Zanesville.

Muskingum County Commissioners along with representatives from the senior center met today to discuss the updated progress of the facility and to ensure they are all on the same page.

The news was not as good for supporters of the Center for Seniors in Muskingum County and their half-mill levy. It went down to defeat Tuesday by around 400 votes.

The money raised would have built a new Senior Center near Zane State College on State Route 146. Executive Director Ann Combs told us they are still going to remain positive going forward.

After weeks of waiting, renovations have been completed at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors.

Fourty-three days ago, buckets spotted the floor to catch water dripping from the ceiling tiles. But as seniors walked through the doors Wednesday, those buckets were replaced with tables and cheers as seniors filled the dinning room for lunch Wednesday afternoon.

Nearly two weeks ago, the Muskingum County Center for Seniors had to close its doors.

Now, the push continues to get a temporary building for the seniors to have the center's daily activities. One of the seniors who enjoys square dancing at the center said it's like not seeing your family for several weeks.
