Muskingum County Treasurer, Carol Friel reported Monday to the County Commissioner's that the county has earned almost $150,000 in interest for the quarter, which is 0.4 percent more than what was expected.

The Muskingum County Commissioner's Office signed a proclamation to recognize 4-H week in Muskingum County. It's a way for the organization to let the community know what the program is about and how it can benefit Muskingum County's youth. 4-H is a nationwide organization and is offered in every county in Ohio. Republican Todd Sands has been elected as a Muskingum County Commissioner, winning by a large margin over Democrat John Bates and Independent Steve Strauss.

Sands received 18,877 votes, compared to 11,922 for Bates and 3,993 for Strauss.  Sands will replace Strauss as a Muskingum County Commissioner. 

Sands said he's grateful for his family, friends and other supporters that helped him win the race.  He said it's a surreal moment that hasn't sunk in quite yet.

Democrat Jerry Lavy has been re-elected as a Muskingum County Commissioner, winning a tight race with Republican Eddie Brock.

Lavy defeated Brock 17,305 votes to 16,619.  That's a difference of just 686 votes.  Lavy said it's a humbling experience to resume his duties as county commissioner.

He said his goal is to continue to find revenue and create jobs here in Muskingum County.

Counties statewide take part in a special flag raising commemorating the War of 1812.

At the Muskingum County Courthouse an 1812 flag also known as the "Star Spangled Banner" flag was raised to honor the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the war. The war pinned the U-S against Britain for a second time.

Muskingum County Officials said they now have a better understanding of the impact Utica shale will have on the county.

Muskingum County has received their annual check from the Division of Forestry.

The money stems from the Timber Management Program. Each fiscal year revenue from the timber sales is distributed among the county. This year more than $66,000 was produced from Blue Rock State Forest.

Muskingum County Commissioners received word Wednesday night that a move to add lime to the wet soil on Northpointe Drive has been approved.

Muskingum County Commissioner Jim Porter said the wet conditions were delaying slip repair work on the road. The addition of lime should help stabilize the soil.

The Muskingum County Dog Warden is looking to make a change in adoption policies and fees.

Dog Warden Bryan Catlin went before Commissioners Monday purposing adoption fees cost $105 across the board. Currently the $105 charge is only for pets undergoing neutering or spaying. If the dog has been previously fixed the cost is reduced to $45. The problem rests in the difficulty of verifying if a dog has been previously fixed or not....
