The Muskingum County Commissioners opened bids for a fair grounds renovation project Thursday.

The fair grounds bathroom facility renovation is estimated to cost $170,000 to complete. Community Development Director Shelia Samson said it's time to update the restrooms for all using the grounds throughout the year.

Muskingum County Treasurer Chris Hamill met with the commissioners to discuss a move to create greater investments in the county Monday.

The Muskingum County Dog Pound is working to construct a new facility.

The project is still in planning stages and those involved are requesting the Muskingum County Commissioner's financial support. The county will provide the property but commissioners must review the budget before making financial commitments. Republican Todd Sands has been elected as a Muskingum County Commissioner, winning by a large margin over Democrat John Bates and Independent Steve Strauss.

Sands received 18,877 votes, compared to 11,922 for Bates and 3,993 for Strauss.  Sands will replace Strauss as a Muskingum County Commissioner. 

Sands said he's grateful for his family, friends and other supporters that helped him win the race.  He said it's a surreal moment that hasn't sunk in quite yet.
