The move to step-up smoking bans within Muskingum County is continuing.

Once again, Community Impact Team representatives, Kate Paul and Amy Davis met with Muskingum County Commissioners requesting their approval on a tobacco free campus policy. The proposed policy would effect the 205 North 7th Street building in Zanesville. Currently there is no smoking allowed in the building due to state law. New Muskingum County Commissioner Steve Strauss is officially sworn into office.

Friends and family of the Commissioner gathered with Judge Gormley for the ceremony. Also in attendance was Former Muskingum County Commissioner Dorothy Montgomery - who served 16 years as Commissioner and knows what an honor the position holds.

It was straight to business for new Muskingum County Commissioner Steve Strauss.

Appointed the position a mere 24-hours ago Strauss was already becoming acquainted with the new position Thursday afternoon."

The Republican Central Committee has chosen Steve Strauss to be Muskingum County Commissioner.

The commissioner seat was left open after the appointment of Brian Hill to State Representative. Hill took over as State Rep for the 94th District after Troy Balderson was appointed to the State Senate.

A controversial ordinance at Zanesville City Council has been postponed two weeks.

The ordinance has already been postponed twice in recent weeks and would allow the city to contract out Licking County's Building Department to perform some of its building inspection services. The Muskingum County Commissioners put up an offer of 40 percent of its revenue for building inspections to be given to the city, up 30 percent from where it currently is to help business stay in the county.

A state screening panel has unanimously recommended Muskingum County Commissioner Brian Hill become our area's state representative.

Hill will fill the 94th-district State Representative seat that was vacated when Troy Balderson was appointed State Senator.

The screening panel will recommend Hill to the full House Republican Caucus Thursday morning. The caucus will take a vote, and then he will be sworn in at 11 a.m.
