Several Muskingum County roadways will soon see repairs.

The commissioners opened bids today for resurfacing roads in Union Township and the resurfacing of John Glenn School Road. The pressure is on to finish the road before school starts.

A portion of Springfield Township will now be considered part of the Village of South Zanesville.

Muskingum County Commissioners approved 10.3 acres of the township to South Zanesville. The annexation will bring a community center and an apartment complex into the Village.

The Health Commissioner of Muskingum County is asking for a renewal levy to be put on the November ballot.

Corey Hamilton met with the Muskingum County Commissioners Monday morning to discuss the levy.

Hamilton said the current one mill, ten year levy is set to expire at the end of the year, and a renewal is needed to help balance the budget at the Health Department.

Muskingum County Commissioners met with city and county water officials in an effort to add additional connecting lines between the two water supplies.

The proposed locations would add a more permanent connection to either Richards or Coal Run roads.

The city's water treatment plant, which at the time was running on generator power, supplied the county with water for a time after the strong storms hit the area nearly two weeks ago.

The announcement that the Muskingum County Home is going to close is bringing out a lot of emotions from area residents.

One area woman is using Facebook as one way to try to keep that from happening.

Tracey Blevins said her father, Larry Gibson, who suffers from Alzheimer's is a resident of the home.

Blevins created the Facebook page, "Save the County Home."

She said since voters decided to keep the county home open by passing an operating levy in 2010...

Muskingum County has been allocated $189,000 as part of the 2012 Community Development Program Grant.

On Thursday Community Development Director Sheila Samson provided the commissioners with an update on the grant.  She said communities within the county submit applications for potential projects.

The Muskingum County OSU Extension Office is submitting its 2013 budget request.

On Thursday Extension Educator Mark Mechling discussed the report with the county commissioners.  He said the office utilizes the funding to provide educational programming in agriculture, natural resources and youth development throughout the county.

The County Risk Sharing Authority (CORSA) met with Muskingum County commissioners Thursday, May 31st to discuss their stewardship report.

Virginia Shrimplin is the Marketing Manager with CORSA, she broke down the way the county is utilizing services and the way CORSA will reward the county.

It's been a little over a week since the Muskingum County Commissioners announced the closing of the Muskingum County Home. Thursday the Commissioners met with lawyers to make sure the proper procedures are in place.

Attorney Martha Sweterlitsch says one of the biggest concerns is making sure all of the residents have a place to go once the home closes. She says while many residents may already be Medicaid or Medicare approved, they may not yet qualify for long term care.

Muskingum County is looking to hire a bee inspector.

On Thursday the county commissioners interviewed Jack Head, who already inspects the hives in Belmont and Guernsey Counties.  He said it's important to check the colonies once a year for dangerous diseases.

"That's the number one thing that we're looking for when we get in there," said Head.  "It's highly contagious, and if you don't do something about it, it'll spread to the other hives in the area....
