The Muskingum County Commissioners were treated to a surprise from Century National Bank on Monday.

Vice President and Trust Officer Jody Spencer presented the commissioners with a brass plaque engraved with the Muskingum County Flag.

Spencer said with the help of secretary Susan Culbertson, they were able to surprise the Commissioners with a presentation rather than an investment meeting.

After years of planning and fundraising, financial plans for the Muskingum Recreation Center are
ready to be finalized.

Muskingum County Community Foundation Executive Director David Mitzel updated members of the Zanesville Noon Rotary Club about the plans, which he said have been in the works for over 5 years.

Area schools are showing their appreciation for our troops overseas.

On Friday volunteers assembled about 50 care packages at the Muskingum County Community Foundation.  Organizer Colby Childs said students collected donations for members of the 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team that recently deployed to Afghanistan from Ohio.

Monetary grants help eight community organizations continue their work.

Through money raised by the Muskingum County Community Foundation $30,000 was given to organizations that focus on visual and performing arts, education and economic development. Non-profit organizations in Muskingum County are invited to participate in a grant competition.

The Muskingum County Community Foundation held its annual Groundhog Day fundraiser Friday evening.

The event featured dinner, and a silent auction at the Ohio University/Zane State Campus Center.

Students planning on attending the Ohio State University - or any branch of Ohio State- may also want to apply for this scholarship.

The struggle of balancing work and school will be a little bit easier for one local student with the help of a scholarship.

The Bar G Oil and Gas Scholarship was created two years ago by the Glass family to encourage students of Mid-East Technology Center to pursue opportunities at Zane State College. The Muskingum County Community Foundation is offering their Olaf and Olga Hanson Scholarship Program for education majors which will be awarded in the amount of 500 dollars to two recipients.
