A flag created for Muskingum County by residents from Muskingum County is returning to the site where it was designed.

Residents from the Muskingum County Home created the flag several years ago.  It was once flown at the Ohio Statehouse with the flags from Ohio's other 87 counties.  On Monday, former superintendent of the county home, Rebecca Cooper, went to the Muskingum County Commissioners with a request.

It was a bittersweet day for residents and staff at the Muskingum County Home.

The goodbye party was held Sunday, sixteen days before the home closes for good. Former and current residents along with their families and staff held a memorial service to remember the years the County Home has been in service.

After spending a day with no electricity and air conditioning the Muskingum County Home began evacuating residents Saturday afternoon.

Today all the residents are back.

The evacuation began around four Saturday. Squads from Dresden, Frazeysburg and Washington Township transported residents out of the heat.

The Muskingum County Commissioners moved the 28 patients from the County Home to Bethesda Hospital due to the power outage.

AEP is estimating 5 to 7 days before power is completely restored to the area.  The County Home generator will not run the air conditioning.

The hospital is opening a wing and the county is providing the staffing.

It's been a little over a week since the Muskingum County Commissioners announced the closing of the Muskingum County Home. Thursday the Commissioners met with lawyers to make sure the proper procedures are in place.

Attorney Martha Sweterlitsch says one of the biggest concerns is making sure all of the residents have a place to go once the home closes. She says while many residents may already be Medicaid or Medicare approved, they may not yet qualify for long term care.

Tensions are high in Muskingum County following a decision made by the County Home Advisory Committee.

On Thursday the commissioners announced that the County Home will close on July 31st.  Employees and residents gasped in shock as Commissioner Jim Porter read a letter of recommendation for closure.

An architect consultant is reviewing the Muskingum County Home facility.

Rick Brown met with the county commissioners on Thursday to discuss the options regarding the certification process.

The search for a new superintendent for the Muskingum County Home might take a little longer than expected.

The county commissioners held a public hearing on Monday to discuss the future of the home.  Commissioner Jerry Lavy said the proposal deadline will move from August 31st to September 15th.

The Muskingum County Home's Interim Superintendent has resigned.

The County Commissioners accepted Michael Moore's resignation today.  Moore, who was also the Home's Nursing Director, replaced Sarah Somers earlier this year.  Commissioner Jerry Lavy said the county will begin requesting proposals to fill the position.
