Students at one Zanesville City School have a new award to put in their trophy case.

As part of this summer's reading program, through the Muskingum County Library System, a goal was set to have more kids in the Zanesville City Schools reading.

They challenged the buildings and the winner for the most percentage of students in the program would get a trophy.

Starting Monday the 25h, the Mskingum County Library System is going to have a floating DVD collection.

The basic idea for the floating system is that whatever branch a DVD is returned, that is where it will stay. Assistant director, Blair Tom told us that currently a DVD can be returned to any of the six locations, but, then it's transported back to its home branch. This new system leaves the DVDs at the branch they are returned to until it is requested by another location.

Kids can now read their favorite books at the library without ever having to turn a page.

The Muskingum County Library System launched their "Kindles for Kids" program Wednesday. For now, the Kindles are only available at John McIntire Library, but if all goes well, the program could be expanded soon.

For the last couple of months area kids have read their way through summer vacation.

Friday is the 13th and while some may see the day as unlucky, if you have fines on your library card it's your lucky day.

The library is holding an amnesty day. If you have overdue fines on your record you can choose one to be removed, as long as the item has been returned. The amnesty doesn't extend to items that have been lost or damaged.

It's more of a debate today in this electronic age of e-readers and downloadable music whether libraries are relevant.

The Muskingum County Library System argues that in our area these structures are important to the access of information, education and enrichment. Even though how they get that information has changed.
