The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office has a reason to celebrate.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said his dispatchers are being awarded for their efforts during the exotic animal release in Zanesville last October. Dispatchers Bill Rowe and Joleen Kinsel received Smart 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Awards, and the entire dispatch center won the Ohio 9-1-1 Gold Star Award.

Two dispatchers with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office are being recognized nationally...

A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of seven illegal aliens in Muskingum County.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said one of his deputies pulled over a vehicle with Arizona registration on Interstate 70 just after midnight on Friday.

"Upon conducting his investigation into that case, he had seven Hispanic males in the vehicle," said Lutz.  "The officer also had a K-9 check the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the vehicle as well for drug activity."

It's finally starting to feel like winter in southeastern Ohio.  A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain covered area roads and created dangerous driving conditions.

Coshocton, Guernsey, Muskingum, Noble and Perry Counties issued snow emergencies to keep drivers off the roads.  Sheriff Matt Lutz said Muskingum County was at a level two earlier on Saturday.

Employees of the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office are settling into their new home.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said the downtown location closed on Wednesday, and the new office on East Pike will open to the public on Tuesday.  Lutz said the move has been very successful so far, but there's still a lot of work to do during this transition period.

After a successful test of the tornado sirens and radio frequencies Wednesday the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office continues to prepare for their re-location.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said the downtown office will be closed to the public Thursday the 12th through Monday the 16th as administration work to complete the moving process.

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency will be doing some testing Wednesday of it's tornado sirens and radio frequencies.

The agency said residents should not be alarmed by the sirens. The test is being performed as part of a series of tests for the new 911 dispatch center.

Quick moves by a pizza delivery man may have saved him from being robbed by gun point.

According to Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz a Papa John's Employee was making a delivery in the 3700 block of the East Pike last night when an armed man attempted to rob him. The employee was able to fight off the subject and according to sheriff's call logs knock out the suspect and take the gun.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is counting down the days until it moves into the Muskingum County East Complex, which currently houses the child support offices.

A garage fire in Newton Township is being called suspicious, according to Lieutenant Mike Lecocq of the Muskingum County Sheriffs Office.

Lecocq said the fire at 7915 Old Town Rd. happened shortly after 9:30 Sunday evening. He said two separate calls came in- one in regards to the garage fire and another in regards to a truck fire, he said it wasn't until crews arrived they realized the incidents were one in the same.
