Two Muskingum County residents charged in connection with a county wide crime spree appeared in court Wednesday.
 

Both 26-year-old Jason Wheeler and 23-year-old Laci Huffman pleaded not guilty to multiple charges which include theft, burglary, misuse of a credit card and breaking and entering.
 

Sheriff  Matt Lutz says the crimes began on July 7th when the couple hit eight different locations from Gratiot to Blue Rock.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and the EPA has opened up an investigation to find out who is dumping computers and TV's in recycling bins across the county.

"It's happened four times this week," said Robert Reiter of the SEO Joint Solid Waste Management District. "These trailers were pulled in and somebody had dumped a significant amount of, actually an overwhelming amount of catheter 8 tubes from computer monitors and televisions inside those recycling trailers....

A former Muskingum County Sheriff was laid to rest Tuesday afternoon after fearlessly battling lung cancer and emphysema.

Bernie Gibson became the sheriff in 1977 and after being re-elected four times, held office longer than any other sheriff. Tuesday morning, there was a funeral service at William Thompson and Son Funeral Home followed by a burial at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Stovertown where there was a 21 gun salute and a flag folding ceremony.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said two Muskingum County residents face significant jail time after they went on a county-wide crime spree.

Sheriff Lutz said 26-year-old Jason Wheeler and 23-year-old Laci Huffman began their crimes on July 7th. He said they hit eight different locations from Gratiot to Blue Rock stealing two vehicles, license plates, electronics and other items. High Water is causing problems for some of those in our region Tuesday morning due to flooding in Perry County.

In Perry County the sheriff's office said there are high water reports everywhere from Crooksville south to Corning. Those include:

The Muskingum County Sheriff's office is investigating the drowning of a two year child from the Akron area. The incident happened at a camping site off of Stillwell Road in Muskingum County's Cass Township.
