Muskingum County's Child Support Enforcement is educating residents throughout August on how emotional, financial and medical support play into the success of a child.

This month is Child Support Awareness month in Ohio. During the month the lobby of the Eastpike facility is decorated in a treasure theme to help educate the community. One employee said that sometimes people don't complete understand the role of their department and that they do offer a lot of free services.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office has reported a detective's gun and badge missing.

The detective reported the items missing on Thursday. The gun is a standard issue .40 caliber glock handgun. Sheriff Matt Lutz says an investigation has been launched to find the missing weapon.

The Zanesville Police Department, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol targeted an area on Interstate 70 between two music festivals in the area on Thursday and Friday of last week. 157 traffic stops were made.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office says they have located a  17-year-old runaway.

According to Detective Tim Matheney, Kayla Castle was reported missing on May 30th and was found and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Upon Kayla's release from the Detention Center she was reported again missing by her family last Thursday.

The Sheriff requested the public's help finded Kayla Tuesday, and say she was located safe Tuesday evening.

The State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement are preparing to hit the road this holiday weekend.

The patrol will be working with local agencies, including the Zanesville Police Department and the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office to patrol for speed on the ground and in the sky.

Zanesville Post Commander, Steven Rine of the State Highway Patrol said just because you don't see law enforcement on the road, doesn't mean that your speed isn't being monitored.

Muskingum County authorities announce a traffic stop resulted in several drug arrests.

Back in April, the State Highway Patrol in Preble County stopped a mini van for speeding, and discovered 20 pounds of marijuana - that was headed to a Muskingum County residence.

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office has a reason to celebrate.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said his dispatchers are being awarded for their efforts during the exotic animal release in Zanesville last October. Dispatchers Bill Rowe and Joleen Kinsel received Smart 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Awards, and the entire dispatch center won the Ohio 9-1-1 Gold Star Award.

Two dispatchers with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office are being recognized nationally...

Joleen Kinsel and Bill Rowe received Gold Star Dispatchers Awards from the state for their efforts during last year's exotic animal incident. Sheriff Matt Lutz said that with all of the chaos that night, they handled their job flawlessly.

A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of seven illegal aliens in Muskingum County.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said one of his deputies pulled over a vehicle with Arizona registration on Interstate 70 just after midnight on Friday.

"Upon conducting his investigation into that case, he had seven Hispanic males in the vehicle," said Lutz.  "The officer also had a K-9 check the vehicle, and the dog alerted to the vehicle as well for drug activity."
