Attorney General Mike DeWine's 5th Community Forum on drug abuse was held at the Zane State College/OUZ Campus Center to discuss drug abuse in Muskingum County. While DeWine recognized the effective programs in Muskingum County, he said it will take the community to help fix the problem.

Some customers of American Electric Power woke up to not only cold temperatures Tuesday morning, but no power as well. 

According to an AEP power outage map at one time 668 residents were without service. That number dropped to 168 before power was completely restored.

An AEP representative tells WHIZ at this time they do not know what caused the outage.

Board members for the Muskingum County Center for Seniors met with the county commissioners to talk about the progress being made towards building a new facility.

The Animal Shelter Society of Muskingum County will improve animal based programs through funds raised at their annual auction.

The organization raised more than $21,000 at this year's auction that took place a few weeks ago, Executive Director, Jody Murray says that he was pleased with the event.

The November general election is set to take place Tuesday.

Voting will start at 6:30 in the morning and will run until 7:30 in the evening. Muskingum County Board of Elections Director, Chris Hamill says finding out where to vote is an easy process.

Some American Electric Power customers woke up in the dark Thursday morning.

Around 1:50a.m. a spokesman at the power company said that a mechanical problem arose at a Maysville substation and some equipment was damaged. 

At one time power was out to over 2,200 AEP customers. Service was restored just before 6:30a.m. Thursday.

The Muskingum County branch of the NAACP is having a banquet to celebrate movers and shakers from the local community.

 The Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensation announced $8.7 million in worker's compensation rebate checks are headed to Muskingum and Guernsey Counties.

Administrator and CEO Steve Buehrer said the rebates to private employers, local governments and schools are part of a billion dollars in rebates announced by Governor John Kasich in May. 

Buehrer said in the past rebates and a number of checks have remained uncashed or ignored over concerns they weren't legitimate....
