One area man wants to give Zanesville a place to learn about the past.

Gary Allen said there is a lot of rich history in Zanesville that people may not think about. It's the second state capitol and home to the only y-bridge in the nation. Allen wants to open the Zanesville Historical Museum on the Muskingum River.

As temperatures begin to rise ice that had been jammed in the Muskingum River is starting to break free causing serious problems for boat docks.

The ice that was previously frozen bank to bank is breaking loose and as it makes its way down the river it's tearing up docks and trees along the way.

The Muskingum Riverway Advocacy Council is working on clearing the river from snags and debris.

State environmental officials have determined what caused the mysterious sheen on the Muskingum River.

Test results from the state EPA reveal that the sheen is a naturally occurring diatom algae bloom. The director of the Muskingum County EMA, Bo Keck, said that the algae forms at the bottom of the river and the dams cause it to give off an oil-like sheen on the surface.

Though officials know what it is, they do not know what caused it.

The Muskingum County Sheriff says that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has recovered the body believed to be that of a man missing in the Muskingum River. 

Sheriff Matt Lutz said the body of a man was discovered south of the Rokeby Lock in Morgan County,Friday. 

On Tuesday, Zanesville Police and Fire Department recieved a call in regards to two men in the river. Upon investigation officals found debris of a boat, which later turned out to be stolen.

Day 2 of the search for the missing men in the river has been unsuccessful so far.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) says the Zanesville and Falls Township Fire Departments along with helicopters from the Highway Patrol and the Division of Wildlife were working the river.

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency is keeping a close eye on the Muskingum River.

Ice broke loose on the Muskingum River Friday afternoon,  tearing out docks, gazebos, trees, and other debris. EMA Director, Bo Keck, said his office has been monitoring the river ever since it froze across earlier this winter. He called what happened Friday  "devastating."

It is day two of a search of the Muskingum river for a Coshocton man who has been missing since the boat he was riding in capsized.

In only two weeks time, southeastern Ohio has seen more than 7 inches of rain and has caused significant flooding of local rivers and streams. Harsh flood conditions are extremely dangerous and are to blame for the flipping of a boat into the Muskingum River in Coshocton with three individuals on board. 53 year old Mark Walters is still missing.
