Muskingum University has tabbed Travis Schwab as its next men's basketball coach. The school made the announcement on Wednesday.

Schwab comes to New Concord following an eight-year stint at Wittenburg University, where he served as an associate head coach since 2013. The Tigers have dominated the North Coast Athletic Conference in recent years, making the NCAA tournament three times since 2011 and posting a 142-80 record since 2007.

Area firefighters responded to a fire at Muskingum University in New Concord at approximately 7:40 p.m. Thursday.

The cause of the fire, located along the southern wall of a dining area inside Thomas Hall, is still unknown at this time. New Concord, Perry Township and Cassell Station fire departments all responded to the scene to put out the blaze. Muskingum men's basketball coach Gene Ford announced his retirement Monday, putting a halt to a coaching career that has spanned 39 years.

"It's the right time," Ford told Muskingum Athletics. "I've been blessed to have been involved with basketball for four decades and it's now time to step aside and spend more time with my family. The relationships I've developed with the student-athletes, coaches, staff and administration are the things I'll miss the most."

Besides remembering the man, many people took part in a day of service to remember Martin Luther King Jr. message.

Students from Muskingum University left campus and headed out to volunteer for the MLK Day of Service. One of the many groups out Monday served on the line at Christ's Table this afternoon. The Southeast Ohio Symphony Orchestra in partnership with Muskingum University is set to perform in Zanesville Wednesday, December 3rd.
