A former area college student has been charged with aggravated murder in connection with the death of her newborn baby.

In the indictment, 20-year-old, Emile Weaver, a Muskingum University sophomore, also faces one count of abuse of a corpse, and two counts of tampering with evidence. Muskingum County Prosecutor, Mike Haddox said if convicted of murder, Weaver could face life imprisonment without parole.

 Zane State College and Muskingum University are teaming up to give local college students a path to a Bachelor's Degree.

The college and university signed a memorandum of agreement June 4 at the Galleria of the Advanced Science and Technology Center on Zane State's campus. The Muskingum County Sheriffs Office is investigating the discovery of a dead newborn baby on Muskingum University's campus.

Captain Jeff Lecocq says the abandoned infant was discovered at 125 Lakeside Drive.

"Shortly after 9 o'clock last night our office was contacted by Muskingum University Police requesting assistance on a report of a newborn baby that had been found dead on campus. Our deputies along with New Concord Police and EMS did respond to the address."

The Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra wrapped up their 2014-2015 concert season Sunday.

Muskingum University has tabbed Travis Schwab as its next men's basketball coach. The school made the announcement on Wednesday.

Area firefighters responded to a fire at Muskingum University in New Concord at approximately 7:40 p.m. Thursday.

The cause of the fire, located along the southern wall of a dining area inside Thomas Hall, is still unknown at this time.
