A competitive fundraiser is taking place on Saturday to raise money for the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross.

The 6th annual Guns and Hoses Fundraiser will take place at Riverside Park Saturday morning from 9 a.m to 3 p.m . The game is comprised of five teams that feature local law enforcement agencies and fire departments. In the past the teams played flag football, but this year they are trying something new.

As we approach the holiday season and cold temperatures returns it's important to make sure your home is safe from fire.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross' Executive Director said that it's important to make sure your smoke detectors are in working order. The detectors should be placed outside of each bedroom. Helping others this holiday season can be as easy as taking a class.

In an effort to promote their health and safety program the Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross is offering a discount on their CPR and first aid classes as well as their relief kits. The classes are available to workplaces, communities and health care providers. Executive Director Marlene Henderson says it's never too late to get prepared for a potential emergency.

The Red Cross is busier the colder the temperature gets...and they need help to serve those in need.

The organization helps families displaced by house fires and wintery conditions lead to more fires. The Muskingum Valley Chapter has been to four fires in the last four days. The best defense a family can have is a smoke detector and a plan of escape. Getting your family out alive is the most important thing and the Red Cross can handle the rest.

If you would like to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy...we have the perfect way....WHIZ TV will air a benefit concert/telethon Friday night that is being hosted by Matt Lauer on all stations of the NBC television network.

Money collected will be donated to the American Red Cross Relief Efforts. The Red Cross has opened 230 shelters along the East Coast. Donations will help the Red Cross provide assistance for those affected by the massive storm.

The Red Cross encourages you to save a life this holiday season.

Members of the Muskingum Valley Chapter visited the county commissioners Thursday to promote their holiday blood drive. Their annual drive will take place December 27th from 10 until 4 at Secrest Auditorium.

The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is on the move to a new location.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the local chapter has a new home. The location on the East Pike near Norwich will better serve their newly acquired counties Noble and Guernsey. There is still plenty of work to be done to the space. Jack Dittoe is the Facilities Chairman and is overseeing the project.

Area golfers are teeing off for a good cause.

The Muskingum Valley Chapter of the Red Cross held its Disaster Relief Golf Outing at Jaycees golf course.  Executive Director Marlene Henderson said 19 teams hit the green.

"The funds help the families in our five counties: Muskingum, Perry, Morgan, Guernsey and Noble Counties.  For every family that has a fire, this money goes right back to help with their basic needs."

With warmer temperatures and changing weather patterns, we're already into tornado season full force this year...

On Tuesday, multiple twisters touched down in the Dallas, Texas area causing devastation. Marlene Henderson with the Muskingum Valley Red Cross said to pay attention to the watches and warnings, and to act immediately, regardless of what you think is going to happen.

It's Disaster Preparedness Week and a national organization is spreading the word...

The Muskingum Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross has tips for people to be ready in case of unexpected emergencies. Regional Disaster Services Field Specialist James Applegate said to have an emergency kit and to make a plan ahead of time.

"Be informed. Finding out what disasters happen in your area. What you're proned to in your particular neighborhood," said Applegate.
