The Muskingum Valley Garden Society is preparing its downtown planters for the Christmas season.

The group spent yesterday and today removing summer plants from the planters around downtown Zanesville. The pots will later be replaced with Christmas greens. The plants removed are taken to the city yard in order to be composed. Downtown plant project coordinator Darlene Turner explains their plans for the planters.

Zanesville's Y-Bridge added some color this afternoon as volunteers from the Muskingum Valley Garden Society worked to plant flowers as part of the downtown beautification process.  The volunteers worked to fill 36 baskets on the bridge's poles that are equipped with an automatic watering system, and even more planting will be done throughout the downtown area later this week.

For gardeners it's never too early to start thinking about this year's plantings.

The 11th Annual Spring Fever Garden Symposium is a chance to forget about the dreary winter weather and turn thoughts to sunshine.

On Friday, volunteers from the Muskingum Valley Garden Society started planting dozens of different kinds of plants in front of the Welcome Center. Darlene Turner, a MVGS volunteer, says this is just one step to help beautify downtown Zanesville.

A local organization is working to beautify Muskingum County one project at a time.

The Muskingum Valley Garden Society woke up early Saturday morning and came out to Starlight Academy to improve its landscape. Timber Run gardens donated all of the plants for the building, while the group's members put them into the ground.

A local group is using its green thumb to bring beauty to Zanesville
