With the quick dump of some soil and the digging in of flowers, the Y-Bridge has a new look this week.
The Muskingum Valley Garden Society and gardeners from Timber Run Gardens circled the bridge Tuesday to plant flowers in all 17 pots on it. This isn't the only time the group will be sprinkled around town.

The group spent yesterday and today removing summer plants from the planters around downtown Zanesville. The pots will later be replaced with Christmas greens. Zanesville's Y-Bridge added some color this afternoon as volunteers from the Muskingum Valley Garden Society worked to plant flowers as part of the downtown beautification process. The volunteers worked to fill 36 baskets on the bridge's poles that are equipped with an automatic watering system, and even more planting will be done throughout the downtown area later this week.

For those who could no longer wait to start planning their Spring gardens, Saturday was the perfect day to get into the swing of things.
That was when the Muskingum Valley Garden Society held their 11th Annual "Spring Fever" Gardening Symposium at Ohio University-Zanesville. The all local event showed off different ideas for Spring and Summer gardening. Every year the society brings something new and different, this year's treat was the guest speakers.
On Friday, volunteers from the Muskingum Valley Garden Society started planting dozens of different kinds of plants in front of the Welcome Center. Darlene Turner, a MVGS volunteer, says this is just one step to help beautify downtown Zanesville.
"We've been involved with the planting downtown with the downtown containers and the Y-Bridge for the last four or five years and this is another project that we'd like to take on to help," said Turner.
A local organization is working to beautify Muskingum County one project at a time.
The Muskingum Valley Garden Society woke up early Saturday morning and came out to Starlight Academy to improve its landscape. Timber Run gardens donated all of the plants for the building, while the group's members put them into the ground.
