Student athletes in the Muskingum Valley League listened to a local success story this afternoon.

Today was the "Victory with Dignity" athlete leadership summit at the barracks in Duncan Falls. Students athletes were selected by their schools' athletic directors to take part in presentations and activities related to teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership. Keynote speaker Aaron Bates says hes accomplished a lot since his high school days in New Concord.

West Muskingum Tornado Sabrina Madson officially realized her dream of playing college basketball on Wednesday, signing a letter of intent to Fairmont State.

The forward plans to major in education at the Division II school, which is located about two and a half hours away in Fairmont, W.Va.

Just two months from the start of a new season, a John Glenn High School coach is grieving the loss of a former basketball player killed in a Coshocton County crash.

Clay Sturtz, 18, of Coshocton died Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 83 near Otsego.

The former basketball captain, who graduated last year, led the team to the regional semifinals in 2014.

 Lane Dailey netted an overtime winner for Rosecrans and Peyton Harrison scored with 37 seconds remaining in regulation for John Glenn as both teams won their respective sectional titles in nailbiters. 

The Bishops meet Wheelersburg in the district championship next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Jackson.

The Lady Muskies still await their opponent.

Brandon Nguyen netted a hat trick as Zanesville defeated Philo, 6-0, on "Senior Night." Doug Welker, Jacob Fitz and Logan Graham also scored for the Blue Devils. Zanesville will take on the winner of Tri-Valley and Olentangy in the playoffs while Philo is set to battle West Holmes.
