Jeff Buchanan took over as the Newark head coach two seasons ago to replace Scott Beery, who was coming off back to back 4-6 years. It was going to be a rebuilding situation for the Wildcats and in the end after two seasons newark will need man to finish the rebuilding

A 53-year-old  Newark woman who was struck by a car Saturday in Heath has died.

A Spokesperson with Grant Medical Center in Columbus  says Holly Hammond died Sunday night .

Heath Fire Department Captain Earl Miller says Hammond was attempting to cross Ohio 79 near Hopewell Drive when she was struck by a car.

She was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital and then taken by Medflight to Grant Medical Center where she later died...

The Newark Fire Department is trying to determine what started an afternoon fire that killed three animals.

It responded to a fire at 58 Stanberry Street around 1:30 p.m.

Captain Nick Simmons says when crews arrived on the scene there was heavy smoke coming from the house.

He says no one was home at the time of the fire but two cats and one dog were lost in the blaze. The home also suffered significant damage.

An elderly couple is sent to Licking Memorial Hospital after an accident in Newark.

It happened just before nine p.m. last night on Thornwood Road.

Newark Fire Department Assistant Chief Bill Spurgeon says an SUV went off the side of the road and struck a tree.

He says authorities were able to get 78-year-old Royle Campbell out of the car relatively easily, but he says it took crews about 50 minutes to extract 75-year-old Barbara Campbell from the car. Spurgeon says the...

West Main Street in Newark is re-opened after a gas leak earlier this afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. near Licking Memorial Hospital. The Newark Fire Department says a company was digging in the area and cut a gas line.

It was determined no evacuations were needed at the hospital but a portion of West Main Street was closed for about a half hour.

The Newark Fire Department says the gas company, Energy Co-Op, responded and has deemed the area safe.

An 18-year-old is taken to the hospital after an early morning accident.

It happened around 6:15 a.m. at the intersection of 11th and Church streets in Newark.

Newark police say the driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a pole. The impact from the crash caused the car to overturn.

There's no word on the extent of the driver's injuries.
