A child was Life-Flighted to Columbus after being struck by an SUV in Somerset earlier Monday afternoon.

According to Trooper Pat Townsend of the State Highway Patrol, Jodi Beckstede was driving her black Chevy Tahoe down West Main Street around 5 p.m. Monday when she noticed 10-year-old Chelsey Searles and other kids riding bicycles down an adjacent alleyway.

Townsend said from there, Searles pulled out on her bike in front of the vehicle and was struck at around 5 mph.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two may have played a roll in an accident on Richvale road Wednesday morning.  

The State Highway Patrol says they were called to the scene around 10:30 a.m., where they found a white Kia Amanti on its top in a ditch near 1065 Richvale road in Zanesville.

 A Cambridge man pled no contest to his fifth OVI offense in Cambridge Municipal Court. 

In a press release the Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Judge John Nicholson sentenced 41-year-old Darryl Carpenter to nine months in jail and a $1,000 fine, three years probation and a five year license suspension. 

While in court Carpenter apologized to the family he almost hit head-on while driving impaired with a blood alcohol level of three times the legal limit.

The Ohio State Patrol says an accident this evening on US 22 is believed to have been caused by a drunk driver.

The accident happened just outside of Wal-Mart on Maysville Pike.

According to the State Highway Patrolman Stephen Williams, two cars were traveling west-bound, when a Ford Ranger, rear ended a Ford Explorer and sent the vehicle into an intersection.

Several passengers were taken to Good Samaritan hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.

An increased effort by Ohio Troopers to stop drunken driving may contribute to the nearly 9% drop in fatal accidents so far this year.

The State Highway Patrol released numbers Thursday indicating 824 people have been killed on Ohio roads through October. That's down 902 fatalities during the same time last year.

Two remain in the hospital after a late night accident.

According to the State Highway Patrol it happened shortly before 11 o'clock Friday night on US 22 in Newton Township. 33-year-old Kimberly Rota of Zanesville was traveling westbound when she went left of center striking oncoming 53-year-old Kenneth Barney of Zanesville.

An accident Thursday evening has a twist of fate -leaving two women thankful for one anothers aid to their mothers.

The accident was around 6:30 at the intersection of State Routes 60 and 719. According to the State Highway Patrol, a south-bound Jeep Cherokee driven by 80 year-old Thomas Pierce of Chandlersville struck a north-bound Chevy Malibu driven by 51-year-old Kathy Bebout of McConnelsville.

A Muskingum County sobriety check-point stopped more than 600 drivers on Friday night.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol held a drunk driving checkpoint just south of Wal-Mart on State Route 22 in Newton Township. The plans for the operation were released the day before. Lieutenant Steven Rine said the goal isn't so much to arrest impaired drivers as it is to deter and educate.

The highway patrol had its hands full with back to back accidents on U.S. 40 Thursday afternoon.

Trooper Todd Henry said at about 2:30 Loren Lobell was headed East in a Dodge Caravan when he attempted to make a left turn hitting West Bound Leanne Ballinger's Pontiac Bonaville. About 10 minutes later Trooper Henry said another two car accident took place at that same location.

The Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol announces an OVI checkpoint for Friday evening.

The checkpoint will take place in Fairfield County and is funded by federal grant funds. It is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

Lt. Craig Cvetan commander of the Lancaster Post said, "Based on provisional data there were 429 OVI related fatal crashes in which 478 people were killed last year in Ohio.
