Seven area fire departments responded to a house fire early this morning in Perry County
The family-built home located at 3147 Cooperriders Road, just North West of Somerset, belonged to Jim and Judy Vatter. Somerset, Thornville, Thirsten, Millersport, Licking, National Trails, and Hopewell Township fire departments as well as the State Fire Marshal and the Red Cross were on scene.

According to fire officials, the fire started at 5 a.m. Thursday morning at the home of Robert Walker at 7294 SR 345, just north of Crooksville. Fire fighter Dan Rodgers says the two-story wooden-frame home was fully involved in flames when crews arrived, and says the family managed to escape the burning home unharmed. A Perry County man is dead after a Sunday morning crash.
The State Highway Patrol said that 20-year-old Tyler Moore, of New Lexington, was traveling northbound on State Route 93 near Dutch Ridge Road when he lost control of his 2009 Toyota Scion and left the roadway. His vehicle then went over an embankment, striking a tree.
Moore was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Coroner.
The Crooksville Fire Department knocked on every door at Village Green Apartments Tuesday morning and told everyone to evacuate immediately. When residents arrived back home Wednesday morning, the water had receded but there homes were destroyed.
