West Holmes jumped out to a hot start to sweep Philo volleyball, 25-9, 25-18, 25-19, in the division II district final at River View High School.

In boys soccer, Dover topped Coshocton, 1-0, thanks to a golden goal in overtime to also capture the district title.

In men's college soccer, Muskingum defeated Mount Union on the road, 2-1, behind goals from Antonio Meehan and Quenan Martin.

Brandon Nguyen netted a hat trick as Zanesville defeated Philo, 6-0, on "Senior Night." Doug Welker, Jacob Fitz and Logan Graham also scored for the Blue Devils. Zanesville will take on the winner of Tri-Valley and Olentangy in the playoffs while Philo is set to battle West Holmes.

Philo volleyball took a 2-0 lead against Tri-Valley only to see that lead disappear into thin air as the Lady Dawgs rallied to force a fifth set. The Electrics showed up when it mattered most, though, taking the final set and the win. 

John Glenn also won, so both Philo and the Lady Muskies are tied for the top spot in the MVL.

The Muskingum County commissioners were supposed to be presented with multiple bids for road resurfacing in both Philo and Dresden Monday morning.

However, there was only one bid for Philo repairs and no bids for Dresden.

Maysville handed John Glenn its first MVL loss in volleyball by winning in straight sets, 25-18, 25-20, 26-24. Aubrie Clarke was perfect on her serving and added 19 assists. Kori Sidwell pitched 12 digs, 9 kills and 1 ace. Mylie Swauger registered seven kills and seven digs.

In girls soccer, West Muskingum beat Philo, 1-0, thanks to a lone goal from Ashley Guthridge in the 36th minute. Tornado keeper Chelcey Tusing turned in the shutout.

A fire this afternoon in Philo injured an area man.

It happened at 210 3rd street just before 2:00PM. A neighbor who witnessed the fire said they saw smoke coming out of the home's kitchen window. Harrison Township Assisstant Fire Chief Terry Moore says the fire started in the bathroom of the home, when a curling iron was left on and it caught some clothes on fire. Muskingum County Community Development Director Sheila Samson met with the county commissioners Thursday to discuss the allocation of funds.

The county is eligible for $133,000 from the 2014 Community Development Allocation Grant funded by the state of Ohio.
