In the first meeting of the year at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority discussions get underway for their plans in 2014.

An official from Zanesville Muskingum Port Authority gave the members of city council an update on their progress and future plans at Monday's council meeting.

The Muskingum County Port Authority made a move to promote manufacturing growth in Muskingum County.

The Port made a move to create the Targeted Manufacturing Training Incentive Program. The board set aside $50,000 that can be used to reimburse companies for their training costs.

The money is an incentive for current companies to hire more people or to attract new companies to the county. It's not usual for counties to take this approach.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority Executive Director Mike Jacoby said the Transportation Improvement District of Muskingum County was approved for a grant by ODOT that will be used to replace the Grant Cliff Bridge in South Zanesville.

The first sale discussed was 3.3 acres near the airport which is to be sold to Big R Trucking and the second will be sold to City Tire.

"We received a donation of about 6.1 acres from the county. It's excess land near the sheriff's office and juvenile detention facility and we'll sell that to KFJ Enterprises," explained Executive Director of ZMCPA, Mike Jacoby.

A company wants to join with the Muskingum County Port Authority to market the area to foreign investors.

The Hicks Partners from Columbus are applying with the government to take part in the EB5 program. EB5 lets those in foreign countries invest in American companies. In return the investors will receive a Green Card if at least ten jobs are created for every $500,000.

Muskingum County continues to market itself to potential businesses.

Recently the Port Authority attended a broker's open house in Pittsburgh to show off land, office and manufacturing space available in Muskingum County.

They worked to target those in the Marcellus Shale development, who may have an interest in our area with Utica Shale. They'll continue to market the area along with 15 other counties in Columbus.

Ordinance 13-27 was tabled at Zanesville City Council Monday night after three concerned residents petitioned to speak on the topic.

Residents were concerned about why the land, near the airport, hasn't been maintained and why it's not being used for recreation.

Today the Muskingum County Commissioner's met with the Executive Director of the Port Authority to review both The Ohio Enterprise Zone agreements and a local company that hasn't met the requirements.

Under an Ohio Enterprise Zone agreement, the Bilco Company, which manufactures parts for the housing and building industry, has failed to meet the job creation requirements. The company agreed to create 60 new jobs, but has only created 35 because of the downturn in the housing market....

The Muskingum County Transportation Improvement District board is going to stay just the way it is.

Back in January the board considered ending the local TID group because there were no projects in the works yet the program still had annual expenses, plus the state funding structure had recently changed.
