The Muskingum County Commisioners held a bid opening on Monday for the 2011 Road Resurfacing Project.

The Shelly Company of Thornville and Shelly and Sands Inc. of Zanesville were the only two to submit bids. This is a part of a paving project and is divided into two sections.

"Depending on where the geographic location is but we also bid alternates into the projects because we have more truck traffic on certain roads and we want to see what the different prices for...

Students may be in the new Zanesville City Schools' buildings, but there's still work to be done on the outside.

The district had hoped the new landscape would be done by now along with the construction of the new parking lot at the high school, but a few snags have put them behind schedule. Crews ran into some rock they had to break and dig up before they could lay down concrete for the sidewalk. Then all they have left to do is crush some stone and lay down the blacktop.

The project is still causing traffic headaches.

"Especially when we have the concrete trucks in. They're difficult to work...

Zanesville will see many water/sewer projects throughout the city over the next 10 years.

According to Zanesville Public Service Director Mike Sims the EPA mandates the city replace combined sewers where, when the storm flow exceeds the pipe's capacity, they discharge to the river.

"We have been into the program a little bit and have completed parts of a couple of the overflows," said Sims. "These are outfalls where are combined sewers when the...

Wayne Avenue is still a problem for motorists as construction continues.

Public Service Director Mike Sims say the project is making good time and should be completed by the end of June or early July.

He has received many complaints about the traffic jam the project is creating, but just asks drivers to be patient and use the alternate routes available, such as Moxahala and Putnman avenues.

Crews are working to put a new waterline in to the area.

Zanesville city crews started work today on a project on portions of Wayne Avenue from the city limits to Marietta Street.

"It's a new waterline," said Public Service Director Mike Sims. "It was one of our stimulus projects. It was 50 percent grant money, 50 percent zero-interest loan. We were fortunate to get that."...
