Zanesville Mayor, Howard Zwelling, says the red light cameras in Heath might have been well-intended by the city, but it turned into something very controversial.

He says residents may have felt differently about the issue if the city had gone about things another way.

The residents of Heath have spoken and their votes are banning red light cameras throughout the city.

Heath resident and business owner Duane Goodwin initially petitioned the red light cameras back in July and gathered signatures to get the issue on the November ballot.

Some of the Democratic candidates for Zanesville City Council are just fighting for their seats at the polls in November, but they are also fighting against each see who has the best chili.

The Zanesville Democrats participated in a chili cookoff at Weasel Boy Brewery this evening.

It was hosted by the Muskingum County Women's Democrat Club as a way for the candidates to interact and to get feedback from the public.

Heath Mayor Richard Waugh says most of the July red light camera violations were paid off last month, and that amount was received last week, totaling just under 520 thousand dollars.

Waugh says while that amount is high, it will continue to drop.

He points out that the month of July had 12-thousand 500 violations and that number dropped to four-thousand violations last month, with a majority of those being speeding violations.
