Muskingum County adds another fallen hero to a local monument.

The name of South Zanesville Firefighter Richard Guss Senior was etched into the stone of the Fallen Guardians Monument in front of the courthouse.

He's just the third firefighter in the county to die in the line of duty. Guss, who was also the Mayor of South Zanesville, died in December after he suffered an injury returning from a fire.

Funeral arrangements have been finalized for the deceased mayor and long time volunteer firefighter of South Zanesville -- Richard Guss.

The William Thompson and Son Funeral home is handling the arrangements. The viewing will be Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rolling Plains United Methodist Church. Guss passed away Sunday after being hurt fighting a fire on Friday.

The Village of South Zanesville is mourning the loss of the current mayor and long time volunteer firefighter after he was killed in the line of duty.

According to South Zanesville Fire Chief, Norm Mansfield and Fiscal Officer of the village, Chris Kerby, Terry Richard "Dick" Guss has tragically passed away due to injuries sustained from a Friday morning fall. EMA Director and friend, Bo Keck says Dick sat on several boards and was an influential member of the community.

Problems at the South Zanesville Water Plant have forced officials to issue a boil alert for the Village.

Mayor Richard Guss says the boil alert may last several days.

Residents should boil all cooking and drinking water until further notice.
