The cold temperatures have led to fewer blood donors for the American Red Cross.

Rick Dayton with the Red Cross says they've had to cancel blood drives at area schools that have closed due to the cold.  Donations have also been down because people haven't been going out to brave the elements to donate.  

As a result, the Red Cross is holding an emergency blood drive on Friday (January 9th) at the Colony Square Mall.  The drive will take place in the Dunham Sports...

During the winter months blood donations are at their lowest levels and the Red Cross is working to improve that number.

The Red Cross held its annual winter blood drive at Secrest Auditorium on Monday. One pint of donated blood can be used to save up to three lives. Blood can be used for its various properties and can improve the lives of people suffering from severe injuries or diseases.
