For the past 17 years local bikers have ridden together to provide Christmas toys for area children.

A twenty year tradition by two local organizations, to help keep kids warm during the winter months, is upon us again.

The Salvation Army is bringing a tradition usually saved for the holiday season out during the month of July.

An army of volunteers took to the streets to find homeless in our area.

Between 75-90 volunteers took part in the point in time count to help count homeless in our area. The group covered all of Zanesville and traveled to the outlying areas of Dresden and Frazeysburg. During the count nine unsheltered homeless were located.

One organization hopes that the cold temperatures will bring people indoors.

Officials at the Salvation Army in Zanesville said they are ready to shelter those who need to get out of the elements. Their shelter holds up to 35 people and includes a men's and women's dorm and a place for families. Many kids will be warm for the winter thanks to a local establishment.

Terry's Tavern presented a $1,000 check to the Salvation Army for their "Coats For Kids" program. The money came from fundraisers held at the Tavern. Co-owner Tim Arnold said the idea to give to the cause came from their employees and customers.

Thanks to the community and the Salvation Army many in our area will have a happy holiday.

Thursday, the Salvation Army held its annual distribution day. Over 1,200 families from Perry, Morgan and Muskingum Counties were helped this year. Starting at 9 a.m.. a continuous line of people filed in to pick up toys and food.

With only one weekend left to donate, the Salvation Army is sending out a plea for toys.

The final day to donate items to the Salvation Army is Monday, December 17th and although they received a large donation from Avon today, they are still in need of clothing and toys for their toy room.

They'll be some very happy kids in our area come Christmas due to the Salvation Army.

This weekend the Salvation Army held a toy drive at the Zanesville Walmarts to help collect items for their toy room. These toys will be given to children that may not otherwise have Christmas.
