With school now less than a month away, it's time to start thinking about getting children the supplies they need.

For students entering kindergarten, Muskingum Families and Children First is offering an event to help.

"We have several agencies that have come together to put this event on," said Thasia Schilling, a coordinator with Muskingum Families and Children First. "They provide supplies and activities to make this event a lot of fun."

On Wednesday the Future Educators at OUZ distributed school supplies and winter weather accessories for students and teachers at John McIntire Elementary. Megan Moore, a student in the organization, says they've been collecting donations from both students and faculty, and from area businesses.

On Saturday, First United Methodist Church on Putnam Avenue gave away school supplies to local children.

The tradition started back in 2007 and has continued ever since. Once the children received their donated school supplies, the church invited the families to visit the free store to find other items to prepare for the school year.

Volunteers helped set up for an annual event that gives school supplies away to area kindergartners.

This is the sixth year for Muskingum Families and Children First Kindergarten Back Pack and School Supplies Event. All of the supplies were donated by different agencies in the community and volunteers helped prepare for the big day on Saturday.

The House of Grace church is trying to make a difference in the community by giving away 500 backpacks to kids of all grades. Pastor Joe Dunlap says parents don't have to qualify or show their pay stubs, all you have to do is just show up and register.

Community members were outside of Walmart on Maple Avenue on Saturday supporting a cause for the kids.

Saturday was the Eastside Community Ministry "Stuff the Bus" event to get school supplies for local students. Last week, the group had residents fill out an application to receive a backpack and now volunteers are helping fill them by asking for donations.

Thanks to the help of many volunteers and the community lots of area students are ready to go back to school.

As part of the Tools for School program volunteers passed out thousands of school supplies Thursday morning . Cars were lined up at Roosevelt Middle School picking up backpacks and other supplies for students.
