The Zanesville Community joined the rest of the Country in remembering the 13th Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

Area first responders were honored during a luncheon Thuesday at Park Central on Adams Lane. It was hosted by AmeriCorps and the Muskingum County Community Foundation. Burgers, hot dogs, wings and other food was served to our local heroes in appreciation for their work. Ashley Larimer says events like this help us to remember our local service men and women.

Community members gathered at the Muskingum County Courthouse on Sunday to say a prayer for those lost during the attacks on September 11th.

This is the fourth Patriot Day for the Muskingum County's branch of Cry Out America. The national program was created the year after the attacks by the American Awakening Alliance and people join at courthouses around the nation in remembrance.

Next Wednesday, September 11th, will mark the 12th anniversary of the worst terrorist attack America has ever seen.

Following the incidents in 2001, people across the nation began to pray together. This in turn started an organization dedicated to remembering the lives lost from the terrorist attacks.

Next Wednesday, the Muskingum County Community Foundation is honoring first responders by serving them lunch at the YMCA's Park Central.

"With it being on September 11th, when you know, so many first responders lost their lives, we wanted to sort of honor the first responders, said Alex Sherman of AmeriCorps Ohio College Guide. "Being in this community, particularly, I think that first responders are really valued, they're a very valuable part of the community."

This Sunday will mark a decade since the September 11th attacks, and while remembering the heros and their stories plays a crucial role in the understanding of the attacks, it appears some may be beginning to forget.

With the ten year anniversary of September 11th upon us, you have the opportunity to help our troops.

Mona Taylor of Zanesville passed away Wednesday, August 31st. To commemorate her, family members, in connection with the Bryan-Snider Funeral Home have set up a donation box to support Operation Spirit.
