The Sertoma Freedom Week Essay Contest was held Tuesday evening.

The ceremony took place at Trinity Lutheran Church. We spoke to Jerry Lavy, Co-Chair of the event who told us a little bit about the contest process.

The Sertoma Club, also known as "Service To Mankind," focuses on helping the hearing impaired and the community and on Monday night, the club awarded one man for doing just that.

An area couple is recognized for their dedication to improving the lives of the mentally ill.

Thomas and Margaret Quinn received the Service to Mankind Award from the district and regional Sertoma Awards Programs. The Quinn's are Co-Officers for the local chapter of the National Alliance of Mental Illness and have worked to bring awareness to issues concerning the mentally ill for more than 20 years.
