UTICA, OHIO- Monday was the third and final day for the 42nd Annual Utica Sertoma Ice Cream Festival.

The three-day weekend event featured arts and crafts, live entertainment, fun games for the kids, tractor rides, food, and ice cream.

The Utica Ice Cream Festival was started in 1975. The reasoning behind starting the festival was to help fund local projects brought up by the Sertoma Club that benefits the community.

 One local club is preparing for what's known to be the biggest award of the year.

The Zanesville Sertoma Club is accepting nomination for the Service to Mankind Award. Those who are wishing to nominate an individual member of the community can do so by writing a letter stating the reasons why you feel the candidate should be selected for this award.

 8th grade students across Muskingum County were provided with a copy of the Bill of Rights last December and then were asked to complete a 300-word essay on my freedoms and responsibilities as a United States citizen to their teachers.

The yearly tradition takes place the day after President’s Day. 29 students were selected and were invited to bring their family and teachers to have dinner during the award ceremony.

The Sertoma Freedom Week Essay Contest was held Tuesday evening.

An area couple is recognized for their dedication to improving the lives of the mentally ill.

Thomas and Margaret Quinn received the Service to Mankind Award from the district and regional Sertoma Awards Programs. The Quinn's are Co-Officers for the local chapter of the National Alliance of Mental Illness and have worked to bring awareness to issues concerning the mentally ill for more than 20 years.
