In the first meeting of the year at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Port Authority discussions get underway for their plans in 2014.

For the last 18 months the port has discussed creating a new job ready site to draw businesses to our area. Executive Director Mike Jacoby said they've run out of larger sites at Eastpointe and believes the timing to move forward on the project is good.

A Federal Agency has halted plans to auction off mineral rights for shale drilling in a state forest in Muskingum County after state officials complained they were not consulted. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management had planned a December 12th public auction to lease around 4500 acres in the Blue Rock State Forest for hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. The eastern part of our state is seeing an increase in oil and gas drilling as part of the Utica Shale Play.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a series of seminars exploring business assistance and development opportunities related to shale oil and gas.

Monday's event at the John McIntire Library focused on job creation and government regulation as they pertain to energy.  Member Services Director Dana Matz said this is the third meeting in the series, and it's becoming increasingly important for businesses to devise a plan.

The Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge was host to hundreds of businesses looking to discover local opportunities in the shale industry, and industry that is rapidly growing in Ohio.

The State Senate hears Tuesday from opponents of the proposed exotic animal law.

A former Zanesville Mayor is throwing his support behind new shale projects coming to the area.

Don Mason spoke to the Muskingum County Commissioners Monday morning and expressed his appreciation to the Commissioners for their efforts in shale drilling and natural gas exploration.

Mason, who is a lawyer and Member of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, believes the popularity of natural gas will only go up due to its affordability and lower carbon emissions.

The Shale Task Force held an open meeting Friday with elected officials from all over Muskingum county.

The newly-created task force was established to keep those in the community informed about shale drilling projects within the area.
