Panelists were on hand for the E3D summit and shared a message of education and cooperation in support of shale drilling.

Zane State President Dr. Paul Brown opened today's summit at the Campus Center.

Executive Director of the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program, Rhonda Reda was one of the guest speakers at the summit, and said working with schools like Zane State is important to ensure highly trained people to fill jobs created by shale drilling.

Wear and tear on the roadways is often a topic of conversation when it comes to shale drilling.

On Thursday Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis met with the county commissioners to go over permits.  Davis said it's important to maintain the roads before, during and after the drilling projects.

State-wide discussion continues on who will be responsible to pay for road damage caused by upcoming shale drilling.

Ohio is trying to reach an agreement with drilling companies so they'll pay for any damage caused by the heavy equipment needed to extract oil and gas from shale rock. President of Meigs and Muskingum Township Associations Stephen Bradley said Anadarko Petroleum Corporation- the drilling company responsible for Muskingum County- has agreed to take care of the cost.

Local schools are preparing students to excel in energy-related careers.

Zane State College offers programs in fossil fuels and alternative energy sources.  President of Zane State Dr. Paul Brown said jobs in these fields should provide long-term financial stability for graduates.
