The Dangerous Wild Animal State Emergency Response Commission is closer to creating a statewide plan on dealing with animal escapes.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz is a member of that commission. He said some of the major topics concern who will respond, how incident command will be set up and making sure that everyone is on the same page. A Zanesville Community High School Teacher faces a charge in connecting to a reported home burglary.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said 58-year-old Howard Twiggs is charged with a fourth degree felony county of burglary. The sheriff said the morning of January 3rd they received a complaint in reference to a burglary in the 200 block of Eagles Nest Road.

Officials from three different law enforcement agencies take part in a chase ending in Duncan Falls. 

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said the incident started in South Zanesville during a traffic stop of a suspicious vehicle. The sheriff said when the black pickup truck failed to stop for police around 11:45 a.m.. authorities from his department joined in the pursuit.

The Muskingum County Sheriff releases its crime stats for the year of 2012.

This past year the office worked more than 700 cases and made more than 270 arrests. The sheriff said they also confiscated more than $650,000 in drugs. In 2012 they also had over 300 burglary related crimes with a clearance rate of 19 percent. The sheriff said those types of cases are some of the hardest to solve, due to lack of evidence and information.

Sheriff Lutz is back from Washington D.C. after a congressional briefing on Capitol Hill.

Lutz said he was asked about the events that took place last year on October 18th when Terry Thompson released dozens of exotic animals and then killed himself at his Kopchak Road farm.

The animals had to be killed by deputies to protect the public.

It's an unusual case involving a woman found burned in the middle of the road in an isolated area.

A 911 call into the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office describes the scene as a passerby finds a 29-year-old Canton woman in the roadway. The caller tells operators that the woman was burnt, raped and beat up. She was found in the middle of Keyes Road and Steel Hill Road in Muskingum County.

Local celebrities are ready to take a pie to the face to help out area food pantries.

It's all a part of raising funds for Operation Feed. June Smith is with children's services and organized the event.

"We had done it at our agency on a smaller scale a few years ago and it worked out very well so we decided if we got celebrities we could sell more tickets and it seems to be going pretty well so far," said Smith.

The president of the United States Zoological Association believes exotic animal owner Terry Thompson did not take his own life....But was the victim of murder.
