The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office investigates what they consider a suspicious death. 

Sheriff Matt Lutz said that around 10:50p.m. Monday the sheriff's office received a call in reference to an unresponsive female at 6677 McCaslin Road. 

When deputies arrived they found the body of a 25-year-old female, deceased. Sheriff Lutz said detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.

Tornado sirens sound throughout the state as part of severe weather awareness week.

In Muskingum County the sheriff's office dispatch center sets off the sirens as part of the test. The dispatch center can sound sirens for the entire county or certain portions.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz is warning residents of an asphalt scam by  two men named Bill Boswell and Teddy Lee. Lutz says the two are suspected of running fake businesses called "Asphalt Construction" and "A-1 Paving." The local community said its final goodbyes to one of it's most influential members.

Mourners watched as the funeral procession for 28 year veteran of the South Zanesville Fire Department and former South Zanesville Mayor, Dick Guss passed by. Local officials got in the pancake eating spirit Wednesday at Sertoma Pancake Day.

The five selected had just two minutes to eat as many pancakes as possible. In the end it was Sheriff Matt Lutz who took home the pancake eating prize, eating five flapjacks.

The Ohio Attorney General's Office says the number of concealed carry permits have soared over the past year.

Officials say a record breaking, 82,000 permits have been issued from this year through the end of September. This is significantly higher than all of last year and according to Sheriff Matt Lutz, the same goes for Muskingum County.
