What started out as breakfast, ended in a fatal shooting.

At 9:45 a.m. Thursday morning, Muskingum County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call about gunfire at the Burger King on Maysville Pike. When deputies arrived, they found 61-year-old Charles M. Hooper lying on the floor. The Zanesville man and Burger King regular was pronounced dead at the scene. Sheriff Matt Lutz says Hooper was killed in front of customers and Burger King employees.

***Update****Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz says deputies have taken one man into custody.  Deputies are also towing a vehicle from that location.

Zanesville Police have surrounded a house at 1614 Sharon Avenue after a report of gunshots fired.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.  Whiz News is reporting 4 people have been taken into a police cruiser for questioning... 3 men and 1 woman. The Zanesville Police Department says it's continuing to investigate a shooting incident outside Hoppys bar on Putnam Avenue early Sunday morning that injured 4 people. WHIZ has obtained 911 calls from the incident and local reaction.

Sheriff's deputies are required by the state to take a shooting qualifications test every year, according to Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz. With the new surface on their Adamsville Road shooting range, the deputies will be able to train during all four seasons.

Zanesville Police investigate an early morning shooting in the city.

Captain Doug Merry says around 4 a.m. Friday,  they received a call that a man had been shot in the Abington Avenue area.

He says the victim's car broke down on Sharon Avenue and he walked to his brothers house.

A Zanesville man charged in connection with a drive by shooting that injured a man was arraigned in court Wednesday.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, 23-year-old Mark Smart appeared in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court where he pleaded not guilty to seven counts of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm at or into a habitation. Both charges carry a firearm specification.

A Zanesville man has been charged in connection with a drive by shooting that happened earlier this week.

23 year old, Mark Smart of Keen Street is accused of shooting into a crowd of five people at a home on Jackson Street, Monday night. Police say a male was struck in the chest by one of the bullets.
