An unusually warm winter is saving cities around Ohio big money. 

Some areas have spent little to no money clearing snow off the roads. In the City of Zanesville they've sent only one truck out this season. 

"It was a night when it was cold and we had a truck drop water on one of our bridges, it froze and we had to put salt out, so that's the only truck we've had out this year," said Mayor Jeff Tilton.

 The Ohio Department of Transportation is working hard Thursday morning to clear roadways in our area. 

Over 80 ODOT plows are currently plowing and treating roadways in district 5 which includes Muskingum County.

The Ohio Department of Transportation reports road crews are out in the area removing snow falling throughout our area.

ODOT District 5 said over 85 plows are out in their seven county area which includes Muskingum County.

Once again snow has made an appearance in Southeastern Ohio.

The Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 said that one hundred plows are out clearing their seven county, which includes Muskingum. 

At this time in Muskingum County seventeen roadcrews are out working to remove snow.

For most people, several inches of snow means a chance to go outside and play or stay in where it's warm.

But, that's not the case for city street crews. These workers head out into the snowy night to clean our streets. Public Service Director, Jay Bennett, said a lot of work goes into planning the best point of attack for winter storms.

It's a routine winter for those plowing our roadways in the City of Zanesville.

Zanesville's Public Service Director said that salt prices this year are just over $49 for a ton. Last winter, the city was paying over $60 a ton for salt. The mild winter also led to a problem for the city on where to store the excess.
