The Ohio Department of Transportation is preparing for the worst, and with limited amounts of salt.

Right now trucks are being greased and pre-loaded in anticipation of Sunday's big storm. ODOT Manager, Phil Valentine, says the Muskingum County garage currently has 2,500 tons of salt left. While Valentine says 2,500 is a "survivable rate," he says they will continue to pace how much salt is used.

The Muskingum County Emergency Management Agency is keeping a close eye on the Muskingum River.

Ice broke loose on the Muskingum River Friday afternoon,  tearing out docks, gazebos, trees, and other debris. EMA Director, Bo Keck, said his office has been monitoring the river ever since it froze across earlier this winter. He called what happened Friday  "devastating."

The warmer temperatures sure felt better on Thursday, but all the ice and snow in our area is still a big problem and needs to be removed from sidewalks and driveways.

The Do-It Center's, Dayle Bailey says that it's important to use the right equipment when removing large amounts of snow and ice.

The Zanesville Fire Department needs your help digging them out of a dangerous winter situation.

Fire fighters say that the last few winter storms have left area fire hydrants covered with snow. There are around 1,200 hydrants in the city of Zanesville and the fire department is unable to make it to all of them.

Although the city is plowing the roads, chances are you had to dig your car out of the snow this morning. We caught up with a few Zanesville residents who did just that.

The Mayor of the Village of Roseville is asking residents to remove their vehicles from Main Street.  Kim Dixon says the request is being made so snow plows can clear the road.  Dixon says the vehicles can be moved  to the Old Friendship parking lot at First and Main Streets.

A second day in a row of snow in Zanesville and the rest of Ohio. Our area can expect up to 3 inches of new snow during Sunday. It is not expected to be as intense as Saturday when we experienced "whiteout" conditions at certain times.. Most of the counties in our region remains under a Level 2 Snow Emergency. People in Zanesville and the rest of Ohio awoke to another blast from old man winter.

The predicted snow has resulted in snow emergencies being issued for our area. 

The following counties are under a Level 2

  • Muskingum
  • Guernsey
  • Coshocton

Icy sidewalks, steps and driveways usually come along with winter, making even the walk to your car potentially dangerous.The Sunrise Do-It-Center is offering some tips on how to keep your sidewalks and driveways safe and prevent you from slipping and falling.

The New Year is bringing snow and dangerously cold temperatures.  The National Weather Service says parts of our area are under a wind chill and winter weather advisory.  Our area could get between 2 and 4 inches of snow by tonight.  And Friday morning wind chills could reach 10 below.  The Ohio Department of Transportation has crews dealing with the snowfall which has already started. O-dot says in snow and ice take it slow.
