 The South Zanesville Fire Department says a Saturday fire was the work of an arsonist.  It happened around 8:00 pm at 2275 Ridge Road.  Fire investigators say when they arrived on the scene of the moble home it was fully involved in flames. It took fire crews just under an hour to put out the fire.  After investigation it was determined that the cause of the fire is arson.  Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the South Zanesville Fire Department...

SOUTH ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The South Zanesville Fire Department has hosted a chicken barbecue dinner every year since 1961 to year help raise funds for the station.

Captain JT Roberts said that every since the South Zanesville Fire Department added EMT service at the start of May, they have seen a huge jump in calls. Captain Roberts said they were averaging 21 calls per month. In May it was 81, making the need for a chicken dinner fundraiser greater.

A Zanesville family is now picking up the pieces after flames tore through their home Saturday afternoon.

Officials responded at a 911 call placed just after 3:30 p.m. When crews arrived at 1269 Oak Lane in Zanesville the house was fully engulfed with flames.

The South Zanesville Fire Department said a mobile home was claimed by a fire Saturday night.

Crews were dispatched to the 400 block of Chapel Hill Rd. in reference to a structure fire. When they arrived on scene they found a fully engulfed mobile home. A car was found in the driveway which led to concerns an occupant may be inside but they made contact with the owner and found the property was vacant and unoccupied.

 One retired fire fighter is honored after 6 decades of service to the community.

After 60 years of volunteering for the South Zanesville Fire Department, and 11 of those years serving as Chief, Ted Lazer decided to retire. Saturday Lazer along with 17 other volunteer fire fighters were celebrated for their services and dedication to the community. Chief Russell Taylor said this night is special because, Lazer is the longest serving fire-fighter in south Zanesville's history.

The westbound lanes of Maysville Pike were closed for a short period of time Wednesday evening due to an accident.

The call for the crash came in shortly after 5:30 p.m.  According to Trooper T.E. Davis of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Jeep going west on Maysville Pike ran off the side of the road and hit a culvert, causing the vehicle to overturn just north of Tat's Restaurant.

Two fire departments are banding together to honor one of their fallen brothers. 

After suffering an injury in a December of 2013 structure fire, South Zanesville fireman Dick Guss lost his life.
