Funeral arrangements have been finalized for the deceased mayor and long time volunteer firefighter of South Zanesville -- Richard Guss.
The William Thompson and Son Funeral home is handling the arrangements. The viewing will be Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The service will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rolling Plains United Methodist Church. Guss passed away Sunday after being hurt fighting a fire on Friday.

The South Zanesville Fire Department along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, responded to an accident on Coopermill Road just after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. A blaze erupted Friday afternoon at a garage behind a residence on Alfred Street destroying the structure.
According to Zanesville Fire Department Deputy Chief Eric Waltemire, around 3 p.m., South Zanesville dispatchers received several calls reporting heavy black smoke that could be seen for miles on the south end of town. Crews responded to a fire around 6:30 Thursday evening.
The blaze started at a structure behind the Zane Food Mart off of Linden Avenue. The Zanesville Fire Department responded to the scene. The Assistant Chief says he has an idea of what might have caused the fire.
