The South Zanesville Fire Department along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, responded to an accident on Coopermill Road just after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. When crews arrived on scene, a utility pole was knocked to the ground, leaving many without power and causing part of Coopermill Road to be closed for several hours.

Two local fire departments met at Jaycee's Golf Course and played a couple of rounds to raise money for their stations.

This is the first year that South Zanesville and the Newton Township Fire Departments participated in the joint golf outing.

A blaze erupted Friday afternoon at a garage behind a residence on Alfred Street destroying the structure.

According to Zanesville Fire Department Deputy Chief Eric Waltemire, around 3 p.m., South Zanesville dispatchers received several calls reporting heavy black smoke that could be seen for miles on the south end of town. Community Ambulance, Newton Township and the South Zanesville Fire Department responded to the scene of an accident just after 10 a.m. on Friday. According to Trooper Samuel Hendricks of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a Zanesville woman was pulling out of a hair salon when she failed to stop and struck a car on Maysville Pike.

Crews responded to a fire around 6:30 Thursday evening.

The blaze started at a structure behind the Zane Food Mart off of Linden Avenue. The Zanesville Fire Department responded to the scene. The Assistant Chief says he has an idea of what might have caused the fire.

The South Zanesville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2058 Chewelah Ave. in the area of Dearborn Street around 2:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The two occupants of the house were inside when the fire started.

Fire erupted at the Ming Jiang Grill Buffet at 2710 Maysville Pike Saturday evening, destroying the Chinese restaurant.

According to South Zanesville firefighter, Andy James, his department was alerted to the blaze around 5:30 pm. Once they arrived to the scene there were flames and heavy smoke showing from the roof and rear of the fully evolved structure. Everyone inside was able to escape uninjured.

The South Zanesville Fire Department is hoping to have a big crowd on Sunday because they need to raise about $20,000 by next January for a new high-band system that is required by the county.

The Zanesville Fire Department responded to call about a house fire at 1:14 a.m. this morning at 1205 Greenwood Ave.

According to the Zanesville Fire Department,  the fire started after an occupant in the house was fueling a generator inside his home. There were two occupants in the house at the time of the fire. One person was MedFlighted to a hospital in Columbus to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation. No names are being released at this time...

Friday was the ceremony dedicating part of the highway to U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Lester "Buddy" Kinney II, who was killed in 2004 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
