A power outage is forcing the closure of an area school. 

The Starlight School and Workshop will close Monday at 11:30 due to a power outage.

American Electric Power said the outage is effected 1,183 customers in the Adams Lane area. AEP reports a power pole caught on fire and crews on the scene corrected the problem.

In honor of National Disabilities Awareness Employment Month, Starlight Industries hosted a celebratory dinner.

Thursday night was the 26th Annual Muskingum Starlight Industries Transitional and Community Employment Banquet that highlights local employers that hire starlight's adult students.

A local organization is working to beautify Muskingum County one project at a time.

The Muskingum Valley Garden Society woke up early Saturday morning and came out to Starlight Academy to improve its landscape. Timber Run gardens donated all of the plants for the building, while the group's members put them into the ground.

39 children and adults from Starlight School were treated to a holiday party with a visit from Santa Claus and presents.

For the 24th year, Mid-East Career and Technology Centers Student Council sponsored an Adopt-A-Child party at the Starlight School in Zanesville. Mid-East Student Council Advisor, Sue Lake, says students participated in a visit to Starlight School in the beginning of December where the high school students were able to meet the adoptees.

A showdown on the hardwood Saturday afternoon had the crowd cheering, but only one team could walk away as the winner.

WHIZ staff and personalities faced off in a friendly basketball game against the Muskingum County Tigers, hosted by the Muskingum County MR/DD and Starlight Program.

Students at Starlight School now have a new project.

Starlight Industries and the Muskingum County Commissioners entered into a contract Thursday to have Starlight students convert records from the 1800s into micro-films.

Every day, hundreds of students start their day by getting on a school bus to get to school.

But something as simple as getting on that school bus is proving very difficult for a local starlight student.

Eric Roberts attends the workshop at Starlight every day. But his guardian Judy Roberts was told he had to ride the Z-bus to school instead of the regular yellow school buses.

Some local students are helping area children have a Merry Christmas.

The Zanesville Campus Student Coucil  sponsored it's 22nd Adopt-a-Child Chirstmas party. Students from Mid-East Career and Techonology Centers raised about $3,000 for the project through donations.

Starlight School is continuing to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a second celebration, held tonight.

Students, faculty, loved ones, and even some local and state representatives gathered for a cookout, some carnival games, an art display, and a night of dancing.
