The texting ban for Ohio drivers goes into effect Friday, but it'll be six months before you can get a ticket for doing it.
State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Steven Rine said police will only issue warnings for the next half year.
"Texting is one piece of a large problem titled distracted driving," said Rine. "A distracted driver is very dangerous. A distracted driver is as dangerous as an OVI driver."

We're approaching one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, and the State Highway Patrol is asking drivers to stay safe.
Lieutenant Steven Rine said last year the patrol reported 15 fatalities during Labor Day weekend. He said five of those deaths were related to alcohol.

Traffic fatalities are on the rise statewide, but that isn't the case here in southeast Ohio.
A new report shows that 2012 fatalities in the state are up 14% over the same period in 2011. That's 654 fatalities compared with 574 last year. State Highway Patrol Lieutenant Steven Rine said District 7 which includes Muskingum and Coshocton Counties, has reported 38 fatalities so far in 2012.

American Electric Power shuts off power to a neighborhood following an accident Friday afternoon.
It took place on Tannehill Road off of State Route 146 before 3p.m., when a Chevy S-10 pick-up crashed into a home. The Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol said they needed the power company's help due to fears the truck could have been energized.
They hoped to shut off power before removing the vehicle from the house.

The State Highway Patrol investigates a minor accident on Northpointe Drive.
Trooper Lanning said that 20-year-old Elizabeth Garrett was traveling southbound on Northpointe at McGlade School Road around 1:50a.m., Monday morning, when she struck a deer in the roadway.
She then drove off the right side off road and her vehicle overturned onto its top.
She was transported to Genesis Good Samaritan by Dresden EMS. An infant in the vehicle was also transported.

A Blue Rock woman is apprehended after troopers say she was part of a police chase involving a stolen vehicle.
According to the Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol, a trooper attempted to stop a Chrysler Concord for a traffic violation around 11:30 Thursday afternoon in Fairfield County.

A sobriety checkpoint in Perry County resulted in the arrest of an impaired driver.
The State Highway Patrol along with the Crooksville Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff's Office conducted the checkpoint Friday night on State Route 93 just north of Flint Ridge Road.

The State Highway Patrol announces the location of Friday's sobriety checkpoint in Perry County.
The checkpoint, which begins at 9p.m. and lasts until 1a.m., will take place on State Route 93 just north of Flint Ridge Road NE.

A 16-year-old Ohio girl is dead following an accident in Fairfield County.
The State Highway Patrol said it happened on State Route 159 just south of Amanda Clearport Road, Wednesday afternoon.
Troopers said that 16-year-old Corlee Jarvis, of Laurelville, was traveling south on 159 around 3pm when she drove left of center, striking a semi head-on.
That semi was driven by 61-year-old Gary Sydenstricker of Missouri.
