Newark residents are dealing with the aftermath of straight line winds that left thousands without electricity.

"All of the sudden it started raining and the windows actually looked black and then I heard this whooshing sound and there was no time for me to get on my feet to even attempt to get to the basement it happened so fast," said Resident Donna Stasel.

The National Weather Service Tornado Warning for Muskingum and Coshocton Counties has expired.  But a Tornado Watch remains in effect until 9:00pm. There is also a Wind Advisory for most of the same area until 8 pm. Very strong winds of 20 to 30 mph can be expected with wind gusts to 50 mph or higher.  More weather and maps on  Some area schools have  cancelled after school classes and events. For the updated list click on the closing...

Damage from the storms are causing some school delays Friday morning.

The Perry County Sheriff's Office is reporting that all Perry County School Districts will be on a 2-hour delay. That includes the Crooksville, Northern Local, Southern Local, and New Lexington School Districts.

Southeastern Ohio saw its first round of severe weather this season. While most of us saw heavy rain and some gusty winds, there were reports in Zanesville of some small hail.

When severe weather strikes, it often leaves people in the dark, but crews work to make sure the power is restored as quickly as possible. Each storm impacts an area differently, leaving a new set of challenges for workers.

"They assess the problem and see how many crews we have to bring in. Then we go from there, " says Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative Services Technician Tim Fisher.
