With school right around the corner, the cost of all of those back-to-school needs can be overwhelming.

August is just around the corner and kids are on their way back to school.

Co-Chair for Tools for Schools Ellen Shaw said the cost of school supplies averages about $37.00 and some families in the local area struggle to prepare their children for the academic year due to lack of funds.

Buying school supplies can be difficult for some families and Eastside Community Ministry is taking steps to lighten the load for those who might be struggling to check everything off the list.

Community members were outside of Walmart on Maple Avenue on Saturday supporting a cause for the kids.

Saturday was the Eastside Community Ministry "Stuff the Bus" event to get school supplies for local students. Last week, the group had residents fill out an application to receive a backpack and now volunteers are helping fill them by asking for donations.

Volunteers from Eastside Community Ministry met at Zanesville Middle School Tuesday to pack book bags with supplies donated through the "Stuff the Bus" program. Around 50 volunteers in two shifts helped stuff supplies for 753 students.

Kappa Gamma Delta along with Eastside Community Ministry held Stuff the Bus outside of the Wal-Mart on Maple Avenue. The donation of school supplies is a huge benefit for families and students.

If you were shopping at the North Zanesville Wal Mart Saturday you may have been asked to help 'Stuff the Bus.'

For the 3rd year the Tools for School Project has aimed to fill a bus with school supplies to benefit local kids. Co- Chair Ellen Shaw said the goal is to give children in need a brighter future.

Back to school shopping is starting, and one charitable organization wants to help out.

Eastside Community Ministry and American Legion Post 29 joined forces to help lower income children and teens receive the proper school supplies for class.
