For the last couple of months area kids have read their way through summer vacation.

The Muskingum County Library System is receiving feedback from community members about their programs and services as a part of their strategic planning process.

More than 2,000 surveys were mailed into the library by the public. From these responses, the library system can now consider improving in specific areas.

The Muskingum County Library System is celebrating a record-breaking year for its summer reading program.

Assistant Director Blair Tom said more than 2,900 children read about 99,000 books.  He credits the success to the partnerships the library has developed over the years.

An ocean-themed literacy program makes strides for both students and student-teachers.

'Commotion in the Ocean' is a summer-time literacy program taking place at Ohio University Zanesville. The event is put on by Early and Middle Childhood Education Majors working to meet requirements for their education license. Assistant Professor of Education, Dr. Beverly Bell said it's a win-win situation, as the activities also help prepare the children for back to school.

When the last bell rings to say school's out for summer, it doesn't mean that kids should say goodbye to their books.

The Muskingum County Library System is kicking off their Summer reading program, which promotes reading, but makes it fun by rewarding kids for participating.

"The program will run the week of June 14th through July 24th and they can register at any of the six libraries in Muskingum County. You set your reading goal as you read books you earn incentives...
