Drug Abuse Trends

MUSKINGUM COUNTY, OHIO (WHIZ) - A recent survey of drug abuse trends shows that heroin remains popular and widely available. According to Executive Director of Muskingum Behavioral Health, Steve Carrel, two years ago they began seeing more clients abusing the drug, and now it's replaced marijuana as the most used drug in our area.

Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love, and a local group is trying to spread that love.

The Friendship Seven Sweet Adelines offer to sing to your loved ones on Valentine's Day. They only ask for one thing in return. That's a donation to Genesis.

The Muskingum County Pioneer and Historical Society held its annual Putnam Holiday Open House today .

The Historical Society encourages everyone to come out and learn more about the history of Putnam. Five historic homes will be open for the public tomorrow, and many will feature special musical guests.

This Valentine's Day, the Friendship VII Sweet Adelines will continue their tradition of spreading love through singing Valentine's. 

"They are $20 a piece for the Valentine and 100 % of the money that we collect goes to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care," said Bonnie Bean, a member of the group.

A local chapter of a national women's chorus performed for a large crowd at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center on Sunday.

The Friendship 7 Chapter of the Sweet Adeline's sang and acted on stage for their annual show. This year, the theme was "Keeping Time Barbershop Style".

"We are going to travel through time from the fifties era, the forties era, and some inspirational tunes, " said Show Director, Rita Tucker.

The Sweet Adelines spent their day spreading love around Zanesville.

A quartet visited Judge William Joseph at the Municipal Court downtown to share a Valentine message from his wife.

"It makes us feel wonderful to be able to do that and the main thing is, it's the people that we're singing to. We get all kinds of reactions, smiles, tears, it makes them happy to know that somebody is thinking about them," said Nancy Smith with the Sweet Adelines.
