The Ohio Department of Health is urging all public schools to be on the lookout for a new strain of swine flu.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, most of the 99 people affected in Ohio by the H3N2v strain are children.

The line was out the door most of the day at the Rambo Memorial Health Center for people wanting to get the H1N1 vaccine.


As of today anyone can get the the swine flu vaccine and the Rambo Memorial was packed with people trying to stay protected from the virus.

There are now six confirmed cases of the H1N1 flu in Muskingum County.

Muskingum County Health Commissioner Corey Hamilton says there are probably more cases in the area, but testing is difficult.

"About ninety-nine-percent of the flu that is circulating right now is H1N1," said Hamilton. "To send things out for testing and pay the extra dollars, it just doesn't seem necessary. There haven't been any complications from this flu in our area...

Muskingum County's first doses of the H1N1 vaccine are being given out today.
 

Four hundred intranasal spray doses are being used to immunize the Tier 1 priority group.

The first round of H1N1 vaccines has made it's way into Muskingum County.

Director of Nursing Gloria Kieffer says they have been waiting for this first round to come in, and they do expect more.

"We have received a very small amount of vaccine," said Kieffer. "We're having a meeting immediately to determine where that small amount of vaccine will go in order to hit the target populations. The first vaccine is designated for high risk patients."...
