ZANESVILLE, Ohio - The Zanesville Concert Association hosts a Mark Twain Family Fun Day at John McIntire Library Saturday.

The event kicked off this morning at 11 a.m and went on until 1 p.m and was free and open to the entire community.  The Zanesville Fraternal Order of Eagles #302 and Muskingum Valley Education Service Center held the God, Flag and Country Speech Competition on Friday.

68 students representing five districts from South-East Ohio participated in the competition held at the John Mcintire Library Auditorium. This program is aimed to instill Patriotism and Fraternalism in young adults while helping them to become strong public speakers.

The John McIntire public library is keeping kids and adults busy this winter season.

The library in downtown Zanesville has a variety of different activities for both kids and adults to help kick those winter blues. Assistant director, Blair Tom says this would be a great spot for kids to come out on a snow day to learn something new.

The John McIntire Library and the Convention and Visitors Bureau are teaming up to celebrate National Tourism Week on Thursday May 8, with a lunch program featuring special guest, Celeste Freidman.

The Nelson T. Gant Foundation will show four documentaries that highlight different stages of the civil rights movement.

The foundation received a grant from the National Endowment of Humanities to bring the "Created Equal" four series program to Zanesville. It's a way to celebrate the 150th year anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation.

A recent national study from the State Library reported Wednesday that parents who were surveyed still find value in their public libraries.

91% of parents felt libraries were important for children and 84% said libraries play an important role in developing children's life long love of books and reading.
