With the frigid temperatures heading our way, The Salvation Army is opening it's doors to help people get out of the cold.

A local business has been raising funds for a special cause.

Terry's Tavern wanted to ensure our children stay warm this winter. They've been collecting money for winter coats for less fortunate children throughout the year. Friday, they presented The Salvation Army with a generous donation. Mike Mohr is one of the owners of Terry's Tarven. He said doing this every year makes him feel good.

Some of the smallest members of our community are giving back in a big way.

The Learning Center's tiny tots have been gathering canned goods for the past month. Thursday these preschoolers, their parents, and grandparents presented their donation to The Salvation Army and restocked their pantry.

Thousands of area residents brave the cold winter months without a coat.

One local organization is hoping to change that with its "Coats for Kids" campaign. The Salvation Army is currently asking for new or gently used children's coat and hat donations. President of the Women's Auxiliary, Beth Archer, said they do it because the need for coats is so high.

Red kettle season is over at the salvation army, but they're going to keep the campaign going.

The Salvation Army's headquarters has decided to match all money raised in fundraising this year. Ministry Assistant, Dustin Redmond, says they came up with the idea to put small, counter kettles on the walls at The Salvation Army for a small donation of $1.

The Salvation Army is helping people stay warm during these dangerously cold winter temperatures.

Their emergency shelter has been checking in a number of individuals within the past couple of days due to the severly cold weather this week. The shelter can house a maximum of 35 individuals from 1 to 90 days and service anyone from Muskingum, Perry or Morgan counties.

Some good news for The Salvation Army as they have passed their red kettle goal with one day to spare.

This year, The Salvation Army set a goal of $100,000 for their annual red kettle event, and as of yesterday, they raised well over that amount.
