Tuesday afternoon the Zanesville Noon Rotary Club brought in a very exciting speaker.

The Muskingum County Commissioners heard bids for the chip and seal project Monday morning. In the first bid of the morning, Asphalt Materials Inc. gave a two cost estimates for the 60,000 gallons of liquid asphalt needed to complete the project. The two estimates are for different grads of mulch.

 Each year The Wilds kicks off its season with a festival full of fun.

The 5th annual 'Wildzfest' was held from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The day included a 'kidszone' full of bounce house fun as well as stilt walkers and a three man band. Dora and Diego even stopped by to greet children of all ages. The Wilds Vice President Rick Dietz said that the day is about getting the community excited about the upcoming season.

The Wilds normally known for its wild animals hosted a different kind of animal Saturday.

The world-wide competition Spartan Race came to Southeastern Ohio Saturday morning. The Spartan Race strives to get people off the couch and conquer fear and pain.

The race's founder, Jo De Sena, said "The unique obstacle course will demand every ounce of strength, ingenuity and animal instinct you thought you lost three generations ago." Thousands of people visited the Wilds today...

The Wilds is adding to its herd of Indian rhinos.

The Greater One Horned Rhino was born September 27 and is in pasture alongside mother Dailey.

The birth of the Indian Rhino is the fifth born at the Wilds and the third calf for 17-year-old Dailey and the second for 10-year-old sire Rustum.

The Director of Animal Management Dan Beetem said that while every calf is special this calf marks a new bloodline for the North American Breeding Program.

The month of September sparks a baby boom at the Wilds.

The conservation park welcomed a new white rhino on Tuesday just two days after the birth of a male Masai Giraffe. Both calves are now under the watch of the Wilds Animal Care staff.

The rhino marks the fourth generation born in human care at the facility and is already visible on any of the Wilds tours.

The rhino will grow to be around 4,000 pounds.

The Ohio State University bus tour made a stop in our area on Thursday and visited some hometown favorites.

The tour takes place every summer to fulfill the Ohio State University's Land Grant Mission. The bus tours 44 of the 88 counties in Ohio and on Thursday they toured Muskingum County.

The man responsible for bringing the Wilds to Muskingum County has passed away following complications from Parkinson's disease. 86-year-old Robert Teater died Sunday.

Teater helped lead the expansion of Ohio's parks system in the 1970's under Republican Governor James Rhodes. He served as the Director of Natural Resources from 1975 to 1983.

He also served as director of the Ohio State University School of Natural Resources from 1969 to 1975.

The Wilds held a job fair at Zane State College Thursday afternoon for the 100 seasonal positions they are looking to hire for. About sixty people dropped off applications and were interviewed, but they still have a lot of spots to fill.
