The Transportation Improvement District works to identify possible construction projects for our area.

The state has portioned out $3.5 million statewide for such projects. In the last three years Muskingum County and the City of Zanesville have successfully received funds for Northpointe slip repair, the Grantcliff Bridge project and the 146 turn lane. 

At their meeting Wednesday the TID asked both county and city leaders to begin to think about projects that may qualify...

The Transportation Improvement District plans to apply for funding to help with an area bridge project.

The Grantcliff Bridge needs replaced. It's a multi-year project that requires gas line relocation and right of way that needs to be acquired. The Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 encouraged the TID to apply for a $250,000 grant to help fund the project.

The Muskingum County Engineer's Office took part in Wednesday's Transportation Improvement District Meeting. They said the trusses and beams are in place on the Moxadarla bridge and crews are now in the process of putting in forms so the decking can be poured.

The Engineer's office said the project estimated to cost $550,000 should be complete within the next month. The project is being funded through federal dollars and the TIDs Appalachian money.

The Transportation Improvement District is facing some tough economic times.

At Wednesday's meeting the district approved their budget for 2012. Usually that budget includes $250,000 of what's known as 629 Grant money. Do to new rules on how road projects will be funded by the state that column in the financial report will be left blank. That leaves the TID trying to figure out how to fund work in our area.

The Transportation Improvement District will pay less interest toward a road project.

The State of Ohio has lowered the interest rate on the payment for the Northpointe Road Project. The rate will now be three percent and will save nearly $73,000 in the next year, allowing the district to make some changes.

"We're going to apply more money to the principal and that will reduce the term of the loan" state Board Member Mike Jacoby.
