Over 300 families now have the supplies necessary for their students to start the school year off right.

Thursday, volunteers spent the morning delivering backpacks to waiting cars at Zanesville Middle School as part of the "Tools for School" campaign.

Eight hundred and fifty backpacks were filled with supplies over two days. That's more than they were originally planning.

You can't build a house without a hammer and nails, just like a child can't learn without the appropriate "Tools for School".

Eastside Community Ministry estimates that it costs between $35-40 to put together a back to school bookbag filled with all the supplies needed to start the year.

Over 800 students are now ready for the school year to begin.

Eastside Community Ministry handed out their backpacks put together through their "Tools for School" program.

"I think it's incredible. Obviously the number requested every year grows. It's a program that's needed in our community and I think that it is great that we're able to use so many partners and use so many volunteers and fill that need," said Youth Program Director Joey Osborn.

An assembly line of workers busily filled backpacks for this year's Eastside Community Ministry's "Tools For School" Campaign.

Stacks of folders, pencils and paper carefully made their way into over 800 backpacks. These packs will be given away during an even Thursday. Eastside estimates that each backpack is worth $35.

Community members were outside of Walmart on Maple Avenue on Saturday supporting a cause for the kids.

Saturday was the Eastside Community Ministry "Stuff the Bus" event to get school supplies for local students. Last week, the group had residents fill out an application to receive a backpack and now volunteers are helping fill them by asking for donations.

A line of cars wound their way around Zanesville Middle School Thursday as students prepare to go back to school.

East Side Community Ministry created a new signature event in hopes of bringing in funding and support.

The first-ever Riverboat Night will take place this Friday. Participants will be given play "money" to use throughout the evening. Winnings will be given in the form of tickets and can be used to enter for grand prize drawings. Development Director Joey Osborn is excited to hand out the grand prizes, one of which is a hand-made Ohio State Quilt and tickets to a game.
